Message from the Principal
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):
Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year. I am pleased to be the Principal at Hillcrest Central School. I hope each everyone of you had a wonderful summer. For the first time in my educational career I had the opportunity to spend the whole summer with my family at our cottage. As I reflected on this experience I value this precious time knowing how quick my daughter Emily and son Quintin are growing. I hope you were able to spend some quality time with your family or treat yourself to something you love to do. It meant a lot for me to be with my children, completely and utterly focused on them for the summer. We learned so much together at the cottage about nature, wildlife and the outdoors. Priceless.......
As each new year brings excitement for students, we return to school with new beginnings. Students get to reunite with some friends they have not seen over the summer and continue to see friends they regularly spend time with. As we return to school we look forward to the excitement of learning. I remember, as a child, the excitement the night before school started, but yet the summer was still calling to me to stay on holidays. I hope that each and everyone of you are looking forward to coming back to school with enthusiasm for learning. With this in mind, it is so important to look for the big ideas throughout our learning experiences. Look around you and try to think of real life situations that apply to what you learn eac day in and outside your classrooms.
I know the staff and I look forward to working with the students, parents, and community to provide the best learning experience possible for each and every student. As well, we extend a warm welcome this year to both returning families and our new families who are joining the Hillcrest Central school community. As partners in your child's education the staff and I look forward to working together with you in the education and well being of each student. The Teeswater community is a wonderful place to be.
Over the summer the custodial staff worked diligently to make sure the school was ready for the first day. Things are looking very shiny and fresh as we begin the year. We would like to thank them for all their hard work. As well, Ms. Ballagh for all her hard work in getting everything ready in the office for this year. A thank you to the teachers and program staff in preparing their classrooms and learning opportunities for our Hillcrest Central students.
I like to encourage open, direct communication. Please contact the classroom teacher, the lead teacher or myself if you have questions either by voice mail or in the school planner.
The School Advisory Council meets throughout the year and all parents and guardians are welcome to attend any or all meetings. I encourage you continue to take an active part in your child’s education by using your child’s planner, reading to your child and or assisting them with homework, attending school functions, volunteering, speaking with the classroom teacher, and contacting either our lead teacher or myself.
